Back to Karkand
DICE has revealed the official release times for Back To Karkand for PC and Xbox 360. In addition to the Back to Karkand release, an update will be applied to Battlefield 3 servers as well, on all platforms. The downtime is expected to be around 1 hour. Here are the launch times for Back To Karkand tonight:

Xbox 360: 09:00 GMT (US: 1AM PST)
PC: 08:00 GMT (US: 12 AM PST)

Owners of Battlefield 3 Limited Edition will receive the DLC for free. Otherwise, the price is $15. For more on Back to Karkand, check out the map overviews and the latest screenshots.

A server only patch will be applied on Tuesday, December 13 at approximately 0400 to 0500 AM EST(0900-1000 AM GMT). Please expect BF3 instances to be restarting during this maintenance window.

A brief change log is as follows:

Changelog
* General crashfixes
* Fixed problem where kits would remain on the level for a long time (>10 minutes); this would eventually make the server keel over
* The Back to Karkand maps are included
Our server will be running BTK maps as soon as they are available.

BF3 PC patch update: Servers down for two hours, full change log
By: Alan Ng | November 22, 2011 | 1 Comment

We told you earlier this week that a big update is on the way for the PC version of Battlefield 3, and now we can confirm that EA DICE are just about ready to go live with the patch. We have the full list of patch notes for those of you who are interested in finding out what has been fixed or added to the game.

Let’s get the important information out of the way, as if you are playing the game now, you should be prepared for a few hours of downtime while the update process is underway. DICE has confirmed via Battlelog, that the update for PC players will be going live on November 22nd at 7:00 AM UTC, or on Nov. 21st 11:00 PM PST. Just to point out, that is 2AM Eastern Time and 7AM UK time, 8am for most of you in other areas of Europe.

At the moment the update goes live, there will be two hours of downtime where you will not be able to play Battlefield 3 on PC, so that’s 11PM – 1AM Pacific Time. Battlelog should still be up though, so it may be a good time to take a break and have a read and the full list of changes being made, as there’s a lot to say the least.

DICE has split their update into several different categories: These are client side changes, server side changes, detailed squad improvements and a couple of enhancements to the Battlelog service as well. DICE specifically highlights a ‘A large number of damage and range tweaks’ in the update, as well as the addition of grenades now dropping to the ground if you are killed whilst holding one.

The game has also been tweaked so that players cannot damage friendly vehicles when sitting in an open position, and also a whole host of crashing, glitching and bug fixes too which you can imagine. You’ll be pleased to know that DICE also highlights an overall improvement in loading time and general performance of the game, which is always nice to hear.

We’re looking forward to trying out the new Battlelog updates, as one key change includes added interaction with Google+, Facebook and Twitter, allowing players to post their stats so that friends can check out how you’re doing. You can also check out your friends Battlelog stats profile even when you are not signed into Battlelog yourself. Still no word on the highly anticipated Battlelog iOS / Android app, but we’ll be sure to let you know when that drops.

There’s a lot of information to digest, so make sure you read everything in full detail at the Battlefield Blog here. Let us know your thoughts on the changes and what aspect of it you are most pleased about. Is there anything which you feel they have missed off the list? Don’t forget to check out the new Back to Karkand gameplay footage here.
Some Gulf Of Oman Footage - sorry it's console version so players seem kind of bad. At the very end a guy on the crane does a panoramic view of the map, seems there is no carrier

And here is Karkand - odd seeing this map without the yellow peasoup sky

Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand DLC Gameplay Trailer and Release Date Update
November 06, 2011

Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand DLC Gameplay Trailer and Release DateEA has updated the status of when we might expect the Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand DLC pack and provided a new gameplay trailer that aims to make it worth the wait.

The Back to Karkand DLC pack was originally scheduled to be released alongside Battlefield 3 late last month. Since the DLC pack wasn't quite ready for primetime, EA took it off the schedule and offered no indication of when it might be available.

Now we know Back to Karkand will deploy in December, though what date remains unknown. I'd like to think it will be out before Christmas but we just don't know one way or the other right now.

What we do know is that those already proven maps look absolutely stunning with the upgrade. See for yourself:

As a reminder, the Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand DLC pack will be a free download to everyone who purchased the limited edition of the full game. For those who bought the standard edition, it will cost $14.99 on Playstation 3 or 1200 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360 or the PC.

Comprising the Back to Karkand DLC pack are four Battlefield 2 maps that have been moved to the new Frostbite engine that powers Battlefield 3. They are Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, Wake Island, and Sharqi Peninsula. It will also feature three new vehicles, 10 new weapons, and a new Conquest Assault mode.

I hope to have a concrete Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand DLC pack release date, as well as exactly what those new vehicles and weapons are, to share sooner rather than later.
